Pankaj Tripathi Biography

Pankaj Tripathi is an Indian actor who plays character roles in Bollywood. He is best known for portraying the tough character role of Sultan in Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 and 2. Run, Omkara, Fukrey, ABCD – Any Body Can Dance and Agnipath are other noted works. He is a theatre artist and has been a part of prestigious NSD, Delhi. Global Baba and Twenty Seven are his upcoming movies.

He belongs to a small and remote village Belsan of Gopalganj, Bihar. He belongs to an agricultural family. He completed his college education from Patna and since those days he was associated with theatre. He had 4 years of theatric experience before joining NSD. He was also associated with student activities during his college days and has been jailed for some time. He developed reading habit in those days and later got interested in watching movies. That’s how he got involved with theater and acting. After gaining enough experience from theatre he reached Mumbai with ambitions to become an actor in Bollywood.

He attended auditions and appeared in bit roles in movies. The most surprising fact is that he was rejected in the first round of audition for Gangs of Wasseypur. But later he was called to give audition for another character of the same movie by its director Anurag Kashyap and that’s how he got the dream role of Sultan in Gangs of Wasseypur. This single role earned him fame and placed him in the minds of audience. Later he played memorable character roles in movies like Agneepath and Fukrey and was most recently seen in Singham Returns.
