Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya Biography

Pandit Shri Ram Sharma Acharya was a social reformer, a philosopher, a visionary of the New Golden Era, and founder of "All World Gayatri Pariwar" at Haridwar. He is also known for the revival of spirituality and integration of the modern and ancient sciences and religion. He developed Shantikunj, a spiritual center for implementing the teachings of Rishis. Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, an instrument for the revival of the Divine Indian Culture as per his vision was inaugurated in 2002 under the auspices of Shantikunj, 12 years after his death. He has also participated in Indian freedom struggle movement and has gone to jail.

 

Shri Ram Sharma Acharya was born on 20 September 1911 in village Anwalkhera, Agra, UP.  Since childhood he was interested in the welfare of common masses. He was solemnized his sacred thread ceremony by founder of Banaras Hindu University, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. At the age of fifteen, his Spiritual Guru, Sarveshwaranandji appeared in his vision during worship and as per his instruction, Shriram performed twenty-four mahapurashcaranas of Gayatri Mantra each for 24 years. Also he visited Himalayas four times. He has also been associated with Indian freedom struggle movement since 12 years old. He created Baal Sena in those childhood days to protest against British. Fellow freedom fighters nicknamed him as "Matt" and he published his revolutionary poems under the same pen name. He has also gone to jail several times. He has also came close with many eminent Indian leaders including Mahatma Gandhi.

 

As a spiritual person, he has visited   Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry, Ramana Maharshi's Ashram at Tiruvannamalai and Santiniketan of Rabindranath Tagore. He has also been a part of Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. With the blessing of Gandhi, he started the task of social uplift through spiritual means. He has also been associated with many literary works and initiated the movement of Vichar Kranti.
