Pandit Pushparaj Koshti Biography

Pandit Pushpraj Koshti born in a musician’s family belongs to Dagur Gharana and he is a well known sitar and surbahar player of the country. He is one of the A grade artists of All India Radio. Pushpraj Koshti is a truly authentic master of Dhrupad and a master exponent of the instrument with fine accompaniment on the Pakhawaj. He had his initial training in sitar from his father, late Shri Ramlal Koshti who was the disciple of Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan of Gwalior who was father of all time great Ustad Amzad Ali Khan.

Pushpraj Koshti had a setback in the beginning as his father died at his early age which was a reason for his break in his musical journey but he did not give up and he met Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the famous Veena player who agreed to teach him and accepted Pushpraj as one of his many disciples. For Pushpraj Koshti the search of guru was over and his musical journey touched the new heights. 

Pushpraj's long association with Ustad that lasted for more than 15 years was very fruitful and his Ustad also guided him very generously in mastering the technique of instrumental music. Pushparaj is considered as one of the best in Aalap and Jod which is his strong and unique point as a mucian. Pushpraj says he never compromises with the traditions and purity of the style of music which was taught to him by world famous Ustads in the field of Indian musical instruments. He still takes guidance from Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar.

Pandit Pushpraj Koshti has been performing in different concerts in India and Europe. He has worked as a teacher in Rottradam Conservatory considered one of the best in the field of leading musical Institutes known world-wide.
