Palode Ravi Biography

Palode Ravi is an Indian politician associated with Kerala state politics. He belongs to Indian National Congress. A senior leader of Indian National Congress, he represented Nedumangad constituency in the state assembly elections 2011. However he lost his seat in 2016 state assembly elections when he was defeated by LDF candidate C. Divakaran by a majority of 3621 votes when the state politics witnessed a huge comeback of LDF. Ravi currently serves as Member of Executive Committees of All India Congress Committee, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and All India Secretary of Indian National Trade Union Congress. He also serves as the Chairman of ‘Samskara Sahithi’ – the arts and cultural forum of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.

 

Palode Ravi hails from Palode village of Nedumangad Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram district. He was born to P. Gangadharan Pillai and M. Saraswathy Amma in the year 1949. He has been associated with students’ wing of politics, Kerala Students Union since his college days. Later as a student leader he rose to the positions of General Secretary of KSU District Committee; President, Kerala Students Union, District Committee, Youth Congress, District Committee and Indian National Trade Union Congress and many leading positions of students and youth congress politics.

 

He is married to S. Jayakumari and the couple has one son and one daughter. Listening to music and reading are his hobbies and he has also published articles and poems in various periodicals. He has also travelled many foreign countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Singapore etc. He was elected to state assembly for the first time in the year 1991, representing Indian National Congress. He retained his seat in 1996 state assembly elections also. In 2011 state assembly elections he defeated LDF candidate Adv. P. Ramachandran Nair (C.P.I) for more than 3000 votes from Nedumangad constituency. However he lost his seat in 2016 state assembly elections.
