Pakhi Tyrewala Biography

Pakhi Tyrewala is the stage name of Punarnava Mehta, a Bollywood actress. She is the wife of film director, Abbas Tyrewala of Jaane tu ya jaane na fame. She was the casting director of the same movie. She debut in Bollywood in 2002 with Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai?, opposite another debutant Yash Pandit. But the movie was not successful. Pakhi is her nickname and she adopted the tag ‘Tyrewala’ after her marriage to Abbas Tyrewala. In 2010, she played lead role opposite John Abraham in the flop movie, Jhootha Hi Sahi directed by her husband. The movie went unnoticed including Rahman’s music. Tyrewala- A. R. Rahman duo could replicate the success of their previous movie, Jaane tu ya jaane na. At present, she is a teacher at the Art of Living Foundation, headed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Punarnava Mehta was born on June 6, 1984 in Delhi. She was brought up in Delhi. Her parents were teacher and journalist. She schooled at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Lodhi Road. As she was dyslexic she didn’t study further. Tyrewala started of her career as a child artist in movies, serials and theater. Juhi in 1995 is one of her earliest television serials. It was telecasted in Doordarshan. She made her debut as a child artist in 1997 movie, Dance of the Wind. In this movie, she portrayed the role of a Russian girl named Stella.

She moved to Mumbai in 2000, where she started working in television ads. She has appeared in ads of Ponds, Sunsilk, Dabur Vattika, Herohonda, Rayban, and Organics. In 2002, she debut in lead role in Bollywood movie, Yeh kya ho raha hai. In 2010 she was cast opposite John Abraham in the film Jhoota Hi Sahi, directed by her husband. Critics heavily criticized Pakki’s acting and blamed her husband for casting her in lead role.
