Padmini Kolhapure is a popular actress of Bollywood during 1980’s. She has also played child actress role in many movies during 1970’s. She has been associated with RK banner under the banner which, her most memorable movie as heroine, opposite Rishi Kapoor – Prem Rog was made. She has sung in a few movies like Vidhaata and has received opportunity to perform in Royal Albert Hall, London.

She belongs to a musical family and she has sung for a few movies as well. Her father is the first cousin is Dinanath Mangeshkar, Father of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Her sister is married to actor Shakti Kapoor. She was recommended to film industry by none other than Asha Bhosle, and Raj kapoor casted her as child artist in Ishq Ishq Ishq. Before, she used to sing chorus for film songs like Yaadom ki baarat and Dushman Dost. She played child artist/school girl role in a string of movies like Saajan Bina Suhagan, Satyam Sivam Sundaram, Zindagi, Gahraee and Insaaf ki tarasu. Her role in Insaaf ki tarasu got entangled in a few controversies though she earned her first Filmfare awards in supporting actress role.

Prem Rog is the milestone movie of her career. This movie marked the new beginning of Padmini as heroine. In this movie also, she played the role of a widow and a rape victim. She won her first Filmfare award as leading actress for this movie. Apart from these two movies, she has got nominations for two movies in her career – Southen for supporting actress role and Pyar Jhuktha Nahin for best actress. She was most successful with Mithun Chakrovarthy and Rishi Kapoor during 1980’s and has got into scandals for kissing Prince Charles.

She has done the roles of glamourous college girl as well as innocent village girl and she is most known for her innocent looks and beautiful smile. Her other movies include Thodi si bewafai, Pyar kiya hai pyar kareinge, Zamane ko dikhana hai, Aaj ka daur, Vidaata, Mazdoor, Woh saat din, Rahi badal gaye, Yeh Ishq nahi aasan, Anubhav, Hum intazaar karenge and Kirayadaar. She is busy with Marathi movies also. She has won screen awards for best actress in the year 2006 for the movie – Chimnee pakre.
