Nupur Asthana Biography

Nupur Asthana is a director of Bollywood and television series. She is better known for her debut television serial, Hip Hip Hurray aired on ZEE TV since 1998. She made her Bollywood debut with 2011 acclaimed movie - Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge which starred Saqib Saleem and Saba Azad in lead roles. This youth oriented movie was a commercial hit. Bewakoofiyaan (2014) was her second release which caught attention for Sonam Kapoor's bikini scene rather than the movie or its script. The movie proved to be a disaster at box office.

She was born in UP, but brought up in Kolkata and Hyderabad. She completed graduation from Lady Shri Ram College For Women, Delhi and during this time she got attached to amateur plays.she completed Masters in Social Communications Media from Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai. With the mid-1990’s she joined Bollywood as an assistant director and has worked under renowned film maker Ketan Mehta for his movie, "Oh Darling Yeh Hai India". She also worked as a dubbing artist for Jackie Shroff starrer – Aar ya paar (1996).

The primetime TV series Hip Hip Hurray on Zee Tv, proved to be the real breakthrough to her career. She preferred to choose a long list of new artists and gave then acting workshops to get prepared for their respective roles. Hubahu on Sony TV and Time Bomb on ZEE TV are other noted works. She also directed the miniseries - Mahi Way for YRF Television which was aired on Sony entertainment television. In 2011, her debut Bollywood film Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge earned her a nomination at Screen awards for Best Debut Director.
