Nizhalgal Ravi is a south Indian film actor who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. He started his career in 1980 with the film Nizhalgal and this breakthrough movie of his career added the tag, Nizhalgal’ to the actor’s name. His full name is Ravichandran Shyamanna. In a career spanning to about three and a half decade, he has completed 500 movies belonging to all south Indian languages. He is married to Vishnupriya and the couple has one son. In 2013, he played the role of a Tamil Brahmin and Imran Khan’s father in Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

He is a television actor too, known for the popular serial, "Jannal". He has also appeared in Thendral, Rail Sneham, Emergency Action and Nallador Veenai. Now he appears in character roles in Tamil cinema. He has also worked as a dubbing artist for Tamil film and television industry. He dubbed for Amitabh Bachchan for the popular show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, Season 2 to Tamil language, for which he got wide appreciation among Tamil speaking audience. He used to record in the early morning at 5 O’ Clock to match with Big B’s voice.

He received the first chance to do a Tamil film through Bharathiraja. The movie was ‘Nizhalgal’ in 1980 in which he played lead role. Though the movie received good response from critics for acting performances, Nizhalgal sank at box office. He was casted opposite Rohini in this movie. However ‘Nizhalgal’ tag got added permanently to his name. But the breakthrough performance in the debut movie didn’t promise him leading hero roles in cinema and slowly he started accepting supporting roles. He has given numerous memorable performances as a character artist and has given life to more than 500 movies.Vedam Puthithu, Nayakan, Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi, Arunachalam, Annamalai, Marupadiyam, Indian, Aasai and Kushi are his noted roles.
