Nitin Sawhney Biography 
Nitin Sawhney is a world-class musician and composer. He is also known as producer, songwriter, DJ, multi-instrumentalist and actor. Nitin is a UK citizen of Indian origin. His parents are Punjabi emigrants. Nitin’s works combine jazz with Indian elements of music. He also explores different themes through his music scores such as multiculturalism, politics, and spirituality. He is skilled in music instruments such as sitar, tabla, classical & jazz piano, flamenco guitar, drum and bass.
He was born in London, England in 1964. Sawhney was raised in Rochester, Kent. At a very young age he was introduced to multiple music instruments. Apart from western music instruments, he also learnt Indian classical instruments such as sitar and tabla. Nitin attended Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School and also studied law at Liverpool University for a short time. He met one of his school friends during this time, and that’s how he entered the world of music. He toured with his friend James Taylor as a part of The James Taylor Quartet. Very soon he started his own music band - The Jazztones.
He discontinued his law studies to work as an accountant for a while. But later he quit his job to pursue a career in music. He moved to London and joined his friend Sanjeev Bhaskar to form a comedy team The Secret Asians. The duo was featured in a show on BBC Radio, and very soon they grabbed the show, Goodness Gracious Me for BBC TV. Since 1993 he fully focused on music and released his first album, Spirit Dance on his own label. Since then he has been associated with many leading musicians across the world. He composed music for a few films such as Split Wide Open in 1999.
