Nishikant Kamat Biography

Nishikant Kamat is an Indian actor turned film director who directs movies in Hindi, Tamil and Marathi. He has delivered commercial hits in all these languages, a rare credit to own. He made his directorial debut through Marathi blockbuster ‘Dombivali Fast’ in 2005, inspired from 1993 Hollywood film Falling Down which earned him accolades in Marathi Cinema and National award for best movie in Marathi language. In 2007 he made his Tamil debut through Evano Oruvan starring Madhavan and Sangeetha in lead roles. The movie was a remake of his Marathi film, ‘Dombivali Fast’. He made his Bollywood debut through acclaimed movie, Mumbai Meri Jaan in 2008. His last release was Bollywood movie, Force, remake of Tamil movie 'Khakha Khakha' which was a commercial success – the only hit of John Abraham in the past few years.

Kamat is one among those actors of Bollywood who changed their path to stay behind camera. Yet he occasionally appears in movies playing supporting roles. He was last seen in 2011 acclaimed movie, 404 Error Not Found. He was first seen in 2004 less known movie, Hava Aney Dey. But this acclaimed movie was shown in several international film festivals and received recognition. He played the pivot role of Chabia in his debut movie.

The following year he made his directorial debut with ‘Dombivali Fast’. His Tamil debut, Evano Oruvan is one among the best movies of Madhavan’s career. Mumbai Meri Jaan – marked his Bollywood debut and this movie was based on 2006 Mumbai train bombings which resulted in the death of 209 passengers. The movie won Filmfare best movie – Critics’ choice. In 2011 he remade Gautham Menon’s 2003 Tamil hit 'Khakha Khakha' to Hindi. John Abraham and Genelia D'Souza reprised the roles played by real life couple Suriya & Jyothika in this movie. He has announced his next Marathi movie with Riteish Deshmukh and is planning for a sequel of commercially and critically acclaimed movie, Force.
