Nisha Pillai Biography

Nisha Pillai is an Indian face on BBC News. She is a journalist based in London. A graduate from the London Business School, Nisha joined BBC News in 1995 and is one of the star anchors of the television network. She joined BBC in 1986 as a reporter. Her interview show Hard Talk as watched by millions of people globally. 9/11 coverage and the battle of Baghdad are her noted achievements of her career as a star anchor. She also coaches senior executives in presentation skills at London Business School.

 

She was born in Kolkata and brought up in Mumbai. She is the granddaughter of renowned industrialist of Kolkata Sir Biren Mookherjee and Ranu Mookherjee, a close associative of Tagore. At the age of 14, her family moved to London where they got settled. She completed her schooling at Birmingham and graduated in analytical economics at the London School of Economics.  After working in the banking industry with Schroders Investment Bank for a short while as a trainee, she chose her real passion and moved to journalism field. She worked with Investors' Chronicle which gave her training in journalism. Pillai joined the BBC in 1986 as a reporter, and worked with The Money Programme, then Panorama till 1995.

 

She joined British Broadcasting Corporation (World) News channel in 1995 as an anchor and television news reader. After that she has been associated with news channel delivering many important events like September 11 attacks and the fall of Baghdad. She also hosted many live shows and debates. She has also interviewed many noted Indian personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, Bal Thackeray and V. S. Naipaul through different shows.
