Nikhil Dsouza Biography

Nikhil D'Souza is a noted playback singer, lyricist and guitarist who predominantly works for Hindi movies. His playback singing debut happened with Rajshree Ojha's Aisha (2010), Bollywood film. The song was "Shaam" composed by Amit Trivedi and he sang aside Amit and Neuman Pinto. He was the South Asia Soloist Winner at SUTASI '09. It was followed by a string of hits the same year - "Anjaana Anjaani Ki Kahani" of Anjana Anjani, "Mere Bina" of Crook and “Main Jiyunga" of Break ke baad. After that, there was no turning back and now, he is one of the popular singers of Bollywood. He has sung songs for Players, Haunted, Murder 3, Ek mein aur ek tu, Akashvaani, D-Day, Boss, Vishwaroop, Cocktail and Jannat tu. He is the face of a niche type of Indian music at present with genres of offbeat, acoustic and folksy singing styles.

 

Nikhil was born and brought up in Mumbai. He was born on November 21, 1981. He graduated in Geology from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Sting, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, and Damien Rice are the major influences behind his music. During college days, he was a member of the band, “Mr. John’s Banned” which was very popular in Mumbai during early 2000’s. He was a guitarist, composer, and backup singer for Lima Yanger during this period. The band “Sleeping Buddha” was formed during this time. Nikhil first performed solo at the Prithvi Theatre, Mumbai in 2007.

 

In 2008, he met Adrian D’souza, a well-known drummer in the Mumbai circuit and formed the band, “KNAP”, with a few more artists like Kenneth Rebello (bass) and Pozy Dhar (guitar). In 2010, he debut Bollywood as a playback singer and now one of the leading singers.
