Nawab Rajendran Biography

Nawab Rajendran was a social activist and journalist from Payyanur, Kerala, most known for his sensational newspaper Nawab. He shot to fame with ‘Nawab’ newspaper which brought into light the social evil of corruptions that was rampant along the corridors of power and he made use of public interest litigation for his work effectively. He is known for his fight for justice and criticizing K. Karunakaran, former chief minister of Kerala.

 

T.A. Rajendran was born in 1950 as the son of Kunjirama Poduval and Bhargaviamma at Payyanur, Kerala. Through his newspaper, Nawab he shot to fame as it exposed corrupted politics and influential and powerful people of the society. Later T.A. Rajendran came to be known as Nawab Rajendran. But Rajendran became the target of many big guns of the society who considered him a threat. Famous Congress leader and former chief minister - K. Karunakaran's role in the destruction of this journalist's life and career is widely known. His newspaper was forced to close down and he was publically assaulted. Later he was sent to jail where he was treated in a cruel way.

 

He is widely known for criticizing K. Karunakaran, particularly in the matter of Thattil John murder case. His biography work states that Crime Branch Police under DIG Jayaram Padikkal had chalked out to get some incriminating documents, which could have ended the political career of Karunakaran. Later towards the end of his career DIG Jayaram Padikkal repented over the wild act and the ill-treatment done to Rajendran. In his 50’s, Rajendran was diagnosed with cancer. On October 10, 2003 he died after being found in a coma in a hotel room.
