Nagma Biography

 

Nagma is an Indian actress who concentrates most on Tamil and Telugu movies. She has done a few successful Hindi movies also. Her best Tamil movies are Baasha opposite Rajnikanth and Kathalan (Humse hain Muquabla) and love birds opposite Prabhudeva. Bollywood blockbuster Kaho na pyar hai is greatly inspired from Love Birds, except that Prabhu Deva played drama that he is dead. In Hindi, two persons are different and Hritik played a double role. Her best Telugu movies are Killer and Gharana Mogudu. In fact, she has done maximum movies for Telugu. Her successful Bollywood movies are Suhaag opposite Akshay Kumar and Baagi opposite Salman Khan. She has also worked for Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Punjabi and Bengali movies. Her younger sister (half sister) Jyothika is also a successful Tollywood heroine.

 

Her great grandfather Sri Gokuldas Morarji was a reputed businessman and her original name is Nandita Arvind Morarji. She was born to Muslim father and Hindu mother. Nagma debut movies with Bollywood movie ‘Baaghi’ in 1990, opposite Salman Khan. After a couple of Bollywood flicks, she moved to Tollywood where she was offered some nice roles. Her first Telugu movie was Killer in 1991.  

 

 In most roles, she was casted as a glamour girl or rich man’s daughter in love with a poor man. Best examples are Baasha and Kathalan. She was a finest dancer too, in most of her dance sequences and had fans following worldwide. She gave equal preference to Tamil as well as Telugu movies when she fully concentrated towards south. Though she had a few Hindi hits like Suhaag in 1995 she preferred to stay in South Indian movies. She appeared as the lover in one of the first releases of Shah Rukh Khan – King Uncle. Other Hindi films are Yalgaar, Parampara, Bewafa se wafa, Dharthiputra and Hasthi. Later she appeared in 2000 movie ‘Chal mere bhai’ opposite Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan in a very special appearance. She was also seen in the movie ‘Papa the great’. Thus, except one or two exceptions, she did only a few movies in Bollywood.

 

Other Tollywood works include Ragasiya Police, Mettukudi and Janakiraman. She has won Filmfare awards for her work in Kathalan. Her only one Malayalam movie ‘Shri krishnapurathe nakshatra thilakkam’ is considered as a classic comedy in which she did the role of an actress who comes to Sri Krishna puram for film shooting and comic incidents associated with it.
