Nagesh Bhonsle Biography

Nagesh Bhonsle is a noted film, television and theater artist, known as an actor. He has portrayed several supporting roles on Hindi big screen. In 2009, he produced and directed the highly acclaimed Marathi film, Goshta Choti Dongraevadhi. He co-produced the movie aside Makarand Anaspure and Sayaji Shinde, who also played lead roles in the film. Nagesh also played a pivot role. Nagesh got associated with film scene in the late 1990s.

 

He was born in Nagpur in the year 1960. Nagesh was drawn towards theater only during his college days. He happened to watch Aata Manushya jagne Rang Mandir in Nagpur. The play was part of the final round of the Maharashtra state level competition. Though he has watched several plays before, he was so much impressed by this play that he decided to join theatre. He liked the performance of Arun Nalawade for the play. The following year he acted in the play Kondmara in the lead role. The play was in Zunri, a dialect of Marathi. The play was successful, and received best play, best direction and best actor awards. Since then he is associated with theatre world. In 1989 and 1990 too, he won Best stage actor award.

 

Thus with big dreams to join cinema, he moved to Mumbai in the early 1990s. He used to hang around Shivaji Mandir in search of some theater roles. Once he met Mangesh Kulkarn, a very renowned Marathi actor who informed him about the auditions of Girish Karnad’s upcoming theatre production - Vijaya bai. He met Bhaskar Chandawarkar and he was selected for the role of the lead singer and the narrator of the play. He sang 17 songs in Chattisgarhi style in high note. Since then he had a wonderful experience with theater. Sarkar, Bombay Boys, Kyon Ki, Billu, D, Dum etc are his Bollywood appearances.
