N. Srinivasan Biography

N. Srinivasan is an Indian industrialist who is currently serving as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was introduced to cricket administration by former BCCI president A. C. Muthiah. He is also the managing director of India Cements Limited. Most recently, with match fixing of IPL matches, he came to limelight and had to face a lot of oppositions from all over the country.

 

Srinivasan was born in Kallidaikurichi, Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu in 1945 as the son of T. S. Narayanaswami, co-founder of India Cements. After completing graduation in technology from Madras University, he took Post Graduate diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA. Srinivasan took over as vice-chairman and managing director of India Cements Limited in 1989. Raasi Cements and Yerraguntla plant of the public sector Cement Corporation were merged to India cements during his reign.  He served as the President of the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1996 – 1998) and is a member of the Executive Committee of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

 

President of the Cement Manufacturers' Association for five terms, chairman of the board of Governors of the National Council for Cement and Building Materials for four terms, Chairman of Development Council for Cement Industry, President of The Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President of the All India Organisation of Employers are the prominent posts held by Srinivasan during the period, 1991 to 2006. He has served as the member of the Prime Minister's Council of Trade and Industry till 2001.

 

He is the current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and he took over the charge from A. C. Muthiah. He was the secretary of the BCCI before resuming charge as president. But during his reign as BCCI president, he has been in the midst of a lot of controversies. His ownership of Chennai Super Kings is the recent one which set fire. When his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan arrested by Mumbai Police related to match fixing in 2013, once again he came to limelight.
