N. R. Narayana Murthy Biography 
N. R. Narayana Murthy is an Indian industrialist and software engineer and the founder and Chairman Emeritus of Infosys Technologies. He was born on 20th August 1946 in a Kannada Madhwa Brahmin family in Mysore in Karnataka. He finished his schooling at government school and studied electrical engineering from National Institute of Engineering at University of Mysore in the year 1967. He obtained his master’s degree from IIT Kanpur in 1969.
He married Sudha Murthy in 1972. She is a social worker and an author and noted for her philanthropic works. They have two children Rohan and Akshata and Rohan married Lakshmi Veni and Akshata married Rushi Sunak.
N. R. Narayana Murthy started his career at IIM Ahmedabad as chief systems programmer. He worked there on time sharing system. He implemented BASIC interpreter for ECIL. Later he joined Patni Computer Systems in Pune. It was at that time he met his wife who was working as an engineer at Tata Engineering and Locomotive Co. Ltd in Pune.
He founded Infosys in 1981 in Pune. His initial investment was $250, most of which was borrowed from his wife. Six other engineers joined the company. He served as the founder CEO of the company for 21 years and then he was succeeded by the co-founder Nandan Nilekani in March 2002. He implemented the Global Deliver Model in the company that led to its huge success in IT services. He led the company to be listed in the Indian Stock Exchange and on the NASDAQ.
From 1992 to 1994 he served as the Chairman of the National Association of Software and Service Companies. He was listed by Time in August 2004 under Global Tech Influentials as one of the ten leaders helping to shape the technology of future. He retired from his executive position on 20th August 2006. He continues as the Chairman Emeritus of the Board.
He also serves as the director on the boards of HSBC, DBS Bank, Unilever, Ford Foundation, UN Foundation, NDTV, etc. He received Padma Vibhushan award in 2008 and Padma Shri award in 2000 from Government of India. He has received many more awards and honors from many world institutions.
