Mylswamy Annadurai Biography

 

Mylswamy Annadurai is a scientist in Indian Space Research Organization and currently serves as Programme Director IRS&SSS. He was the Project Director of Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2. He is the editor for a Tamil Periodical on Science, " Valarum Ariviyal" and regularly writes a column, "Kaiyaruke Nila" in the Tamil weekly Kungumam. Pat present, Annadurai is the leading technologist in the field of satellite system. He is also leading Indian Remote Sensing, Science, Small Satellites Programme as Programme Director.

 

Mylswamy Annadurai was born in Kothavadi, Tamil Nadu. He had his schooling in his native village Kodhavady. He did his complete professional studies in Coimbatore. He completed his engineering studies in 1980 from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. He did his master’s degree from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He also owns a Ph.D from Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore. He joined ISRO in 1982. As soon as he joined, he had some of the original contributions to the INSAT systems maintenance.

 

Chandrayaan-1, was India's first mission to the moon launched by ISRO. It was launched on 22 October 2008 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota of Nellore District. The vehicle was successfully inserted into lunar orbit on 8 November 2008 and India became the third Asian country to launch moon research program. During the period 2004-2008, Mylswamy Annadurai served as the Project Director for Chandrayaan-1.  He along with his team of scientists and engineers developed the project to carry instrumentation from ISRO, NASA, ESA and Bulgaria. Thus he played a significant role in carrying forward the future of India’s space research with the help of international co-operation. Chandrayaan-1 received many awards including Space Pioneers award for science and engineering at 28th International conference.

 

He has been honoured with Doctor of science by different universities like - University of Madras, MGR University, Pondicherry University and Anna University. He has won Eminent Scientist Award from MK University Endowment. He has received Hari om Ashram Pretit Vikram Sarabhai Research Award for his outstanding Contributions to Systems analysis and Space systems management. Government of Karnataka has awarded him with Rajyotsava Prashastifor Science in 2008. He has been awarded with Team Excellence Award 2010 as team leader of Chandrayaan-1 team. He has received many more designations and awards and it’s not at all an easy task to list them all.
