Munawar Ali Khan Biography 
Munawar Ali Khan was a legendary musician and Hindustani and light music vocalist belonging to Kasur Patiala Gharana. He is the son of great and legendary musician, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. Munawar was his youngest son. Munwar’s son too is a leading name of Hindustani and light music right now, Raza Ali Khan. Munawar Ali Khan was known to be an outstanding teacher during his lifetime, and Ajoy Chakraborty, Kumar Mukherjee, Sanjukta Ghosh and Ajoy Chakraborty are some of his famous students. He died at the age of 59 in Kolkata on 13 October 1989.
Khan was born on 15 August 1930 in Lahore, Punjab, British India. Born into a family with strong music background, he inherited music from his father, who taught him the essences of Kasur Patiala Gharana. He accompanied his father Bade Ghulam Ali Khan to all his concerts. After his father had a paralytic attack in early 1961, he became an integral part of his father's recitals for his concerts. At this time, he was in his early 30s. His full-throated voice with open aakar and his style was entirely different from his father’s singing style. After his father’s death in 1968, he started giving solo concerts, and very soon established himself as a leading vocalist of Hindustani music.
He worked as a music teacher at Bharatiya Kala Kendra in Delhi and participated in almost all leading music festivals of India. He was an A-grade artist of All India Radio. He also conducted concerts in Germany, Switzerland, U.K., France, Australia, and represented India at Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also released several music discs under different labels. He rendered his voice for a Bengali film, a "Jaijawanti" as a playback singer. When he passed away in 1989 aged only 59, he was fully active in his professional career.
