Munaf Patel Biography

Munaf Patel is an Indian cricketer. He played for West Zone in Duleep Trophy and for Mumbai, Gujarat and Maharashtra cricket teams. He was born on 12th July 1983 at Ikhar, Gujarat in a Muslim family. He became a prominent person in 2003 at the age of 20. His father is Musa Patel and his mother is Saeeda. He has one sister Noorjahan. He is a right handed medium fast bowler.

 

He joined the Mumbai team and in 2004 he struggled with injuries. He was sent to Australian Institute of Sports for improving his efficiency. He started to play for Maharashtra in 2005 and took 10 wickets against England in his first tour. This made him to be selected for Indian Test Squad. His test debut was on 9th March 2006 against England. He was capable of swinging the ball in both directions.

 

He is one of the fastest bowlers in India bowling at a speed of 85 mph. His ODI debut was on 3rd April 2006 against England and T20 debut was on 19th April 2008 for the team Delhi Daredevils against the team Rajasthan Royals at Delhi. In his first match against England, he got 3 wickets for 18 runs and gained the man of the match award. He took part in the 2007 Cricket World Cup.

 

He was selected for the 2009 tour to Sri Lanka and bowled five wicketless overs for 32 runs. As he was suffering due to groin injury, he was replaced by Lakshmipathi Balaji in the second match. He was selected for the 2011 Cricket World Cup and in the match against South Africa, he got 4 wickets for 28 runs in nine overs taking India to 1 run victory and got the Man of the Match Award. In the match against Bangladesh he took four wickets and also played an important role in the semi final match against Pakistan at Mohali.
