Mukhyamantri Chandru Biography

Mukhyamantri Chandru is a Kannada film actor and politician. He was a stage actor before reaching cinema. ‘Mukhya Mantri’ is the name of the successful play of 1970s in which he played lead hero and the tag got permanently added to his name. Currently he serves as the President of Kannada Abhivriddhi Pradhikara, a rank equivalent to cabinet minister of state government. He started his film journey in 1983 through Chakravyuh, where he portrayed the negative role of a corrupt politician and has played character roles in more than 500 films. He entered politics in 1985 and was active in movies later. Ganeshana Maduve is his most popular film role.

 

Chandru was born in Mysore on 28 August 1953. He completed graduation and also took LLB from Government College, Bangalore. Drawn towards theatre, he started his acting career with a drama troupe in the early 1970s. He played the role of chief minister in the successful play, ‘Mukhya Mantri’ which was successfully staged several times in the 1970s and 1980s by Kalagangotri theatre troupe several times. Since then ‘Mukhya mantri’ tag got permanently added to his name. He made his film debut through 1983 film Chakravyuh in villain’s role.

 

He married in 1983 to Padma and the couple has two children. He entered politics and joined Janata Dal in the year 1985 under Ramakrishna Hegde who was Chief Minister then. He stood as candidate from Gauribidanur constituency and became MLA for the first time. In 1989 he lost Lok sabha elections from Chikballapur constituency. In 1994 he joined BJP and in 2013 he resigned from the party.
