Mukhtar Sahota Biography

Mukhtar Sahota is a British music composer, producer and musician who works in Bollywood also. He is a percussionist who plays multiple instruments. He is associated with music field since 1987 and formed a music band, Sahotas aside his five brothers, who were also associated with music field. He has composed songs for Bollywood flicks - Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Khazana, Diary of a Butterfly etc. A self-taught musician Sahota is associated with Bhangra, fusion, reggae, rock and rap forms of music.

 

He was born in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom into a family of music background. He learnt to play different music instruments himself and had taken the decision to join music stream during his school days. He along with his five brothers formed a music band called Sahotas during the final years at school in the mid-1980s. Since then this popular music band has released nine albums in total which include both English and Punjabi songs. He composed Bhangra Punjabi songs which became indeed popular. His albums have made some record breaking sales and earned many music awards like ‘Best Band’, ‘Best Live Band’, and Platinum and Gold discs.

 

With early 2000s he decided to start his solo career and took a break from his music band. He released his first solo album, Time Out in 2002 in collaboration with Punjabi pop singer Lehmber Hussainpuri. He released his second album, 4 The Muzik two years later. He arranged the charity single, "We Can Make it Better" in 2005 following the natural disasters of south Asia. He set up his own Record Company in 2006. Later he released many albums in collaboration with artists like Arif Lohar, Lakhwinder Wadali etc. He has worked with Rahman for the film, Raavan, and also did background score for Bollywood flick – Blue.
