Muhammad Ali Jinnah Biography

Muhammad Ali Jinnah – The father of Nation of Pakistan was a lawyer, politician, and the founder of Pakistan. Though he is widely accepted as a Pakistani, he was of Gujarat origin, the native place of Father of Nation – Mahatma Gandhi. He was the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 until Pakistan's independence on 14 August 1947. With independence, he became Pakistan's first Governor-General and remained in that position until his death. He has been one of the powerful Indian personalities before Indian independence.

Jinnah was born in Karachi. He trained as a barrister at Lincoln's Inn in London and later became one of the prominent leaders of Indian National Congress. He decorates an elite position in Indian politics since early 20th century. In these early years of his political career, Jinnah advocated Hindu–Muslim unity. In 1916, he shaped Lucknow Pact between the Congress and the All-India Muslim League, which made him a prominent figure later. All India Home Rule League and fourteen-point constitutional reform plan to safeguard the political rights of Muslims are other noted works of Jinnah. In 1920, he resigned from Indian National congress.

By 1940, Jinnah began to believe that Indian Muslims should have their own state. Same year, Muslim League, led by Jinnah passed the Lahore Resolution which demanded a separate nation. During the period of Second World War, majority of congress leaders were in prison and Muslim league gained strength. It won most of the seats reserved for Muslims. Thus later, congress and Muslim league had to agree to separate nations, to get independence. All political parties agreed to it and thus Muslim dominant Pakistan and Hindu dominant India were formed in 1947. Thus Indian partition happened! As the first Governor-General of Pakistan, Jinnah established its new administrative policies.
