Mugur Sundar Biography

Mugur Sundar is a legendary choreographer and dance master associated with Tamil cinema. He has choreographed over 10,000 dance sequences belonging to all south Indian languages. In 2001, he directed one Kannada film - Manasella Neene and the lead role was played by his third son Nagendra Prasad. In fact his three sons – Raju Sundaram, Prabhudeva and Nagendra Prasad are well established dancer-choreographers of south Indian film industry and have also worked in Bollywood films. All the three are distinct actors also and Prabhudeva is currently a successful Bollywood director as well. Sundar has also appeared in a guest role in one Kannada film – Thabbali, the movie choreographed by him.

 

Mugur Sundar originally belongs to Mugur of Mysore district, Karnataka. Mughar Sundar joined film industry in the late 1970s and is quite active since early 1980s. He was a busy choreographer in the 1980s. He has worked with almost all leading actors since early 1980s. Aarada Gaaya released in 1980 is one of his earliest credited works. It was followed by Preetisi Nodu, Prachanda Putanigalu, Anupama, Nee Nanna Gellalare, Keralida Simha and Raga Thalai are some of his early works. He was active in the film industry till mid-2000s. He choreographed for about 1000 movies, in a career spanning to about three decades.

 

Mugur Sundar has also appeared as a reality show judge of AATA 4 – a dance show aired on Zee Telugu, apart from dance shows on Jodi No.1 and Jodi No.1 Season Two on Tamil channel Vijay TV. In 1999, he was honoured with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South. Swathi Muthu, Gowdru, Sahukara, Manasella Neene and Annavru are some of latest works.
