Muazzam Beg Biography

Muazzam Beg is a screenwriter of Bollywood movies, known for Rockstar, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and Swami. In 2012, he made his directorial debut film Sadda Adda, a tale of 6 boys. He has announced his new project, Munna Bhai, Sallu Bhai – Killers or Healers - a documentary-drama on lives of actors Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan. He also writes the script for the movie and is its producer as well. He co-wrote the script of Rockstar aside its director Imtiaz Ali, which bagged Zee Cine Award Best Screenplay for the year 2011.

 

He was born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh in 1979. His early education was done at Shahjahanpur itself. He was actively involved in theatre and writing since his school days. He used to act in stage plays as well. He started as an actor and later progressed as a writer and play director. He also joined a theater group at his hometown during his academic years. In 1996, Beg co-founded a theatre group Abhivyakti Natya, aside a few friends in Shahjahanpur. “Aakhiri Salaam" was the first play staged by the group, followed by “Antrim Yudh” and “Gandhi ne Kaha Tha”.

 

In 1997 he moved to Delhi to complete his Master’s and in parallel he was active in theatre. He became a member of the Jamia Drama Club and participated in intercollege competitions. He got introduced to the craft of Film Making when he did a course in Mass Communication. Very soon he moved to Mumbai to pursue his dreams and joined Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts as an in-house writer. His first independent work was Swami in 2007, where he served as a dialogue writer. Thus he got associated with Bollywood.
