Moulee Biography

Moulee is an Indian actor, playwright and director who works both in movies as well as theatre. His full name is Thiruvidaimarudur Sambamoorthi Ganapathigal Balakrishna Sastrigal Moulee and he is the son of noted Harikatha exponent T. S. Balakrishna Sastrigal. As an actor and director, he owns both films and dramas in his credit. He also owns both Tamil and Telugu movies as a hit director. His daughter Shravanthi is a carnatic singer. He has written and directed 21 films in Tamil and 24 films in Telugu. As an actor he has worked in more than 100 Telugu and Tamil movies.

Moulee was involved in stage shows since school days. He was attracted towards the plays of T. K. Shanmugam and Singanallur Venkataramana Iyer Sahasranamam in his childhood. During his college days, he was a part of Y. G. Parthasarathy's United Artists Association. In the year 1969, the play "Flight No. 172" brought him to limelight. He was its playwright and played actor’s role as well. This play ran continuously for 30 years. Matravai Naeril was the movie that gave him big break to the film industry. Actually his dream was to become only a writer for movies and plays. But later he became a part of the industry doing director and actor roles as well.

He never worked as assistant to any director in the entertainment industry. Ivargal Vidhyasamaanavargal – his debut movie was a commercial hit. He was already popular as a theatre artist before entering movies. A few of his plays have been translated to Bengali also. He started his own banner Rajjkamal films and Nala Damayanthi' released in 2003 was the first movie released under this banner. He has also written the script of Kamal Hassan movie, Pammal K Sambandham. His movies always hold proper elements of comedy. He received the Kalamamani Award for Best Writer in 1985 and 5 Nandi awards.
