Moubani Sorcar Biography

Moubani Sorcar is a noted Bengali actress and painter. She is the second daughter of famous magician P. C. Sorcar, Jr. His younger sister Mumtaz Sorcar is a noted actress and model, while her second sister Maneka Sorcar is now carrying forward the tradition of magic. She is a leading magician of the country who has teamed up with her father for many magical shows. She is the granddaughter of Pratul Chandra Sorcar, the doyen of the art of magic. Her uncle Manick Sorcar is an Indian American artist and engineer while her cousin Piya Sorcar is an Indian American social entrepreneur and researcher.

She was born in Kolkata to famous magician P. C. Sorcar, Jr and Jayashree Devi. She has two sisters. She had passion to arts and dance forms though she chose films as her career. She made her film debut in the year 2009 with the film Badla. Since then she has played numerous noted roles like Nodi Rey Tui, Path Ghat etc which earned her accolades. She won Uttam Kumar Awards for Best debutant Actress for her debut film – Badla in 2009 and Best actress award for Path Ghat in 2014. Her lead role in Nodi Rey Tui earned her best actress award in 2013.

She is a trained Odissi dancer who took training for long 20 years. She is regular with her dance performances in India and abroad. She is also a portrait painter. She has now opened a teaching school of painting called Protiva, where she teaches students. Currently she is busy with solo exhibition. Sorry Kono Khama Nei, Chand Pahari, Antare Bahire etc are some of her recent Bengali film releases.
