Monal Naval Biography

Monal Naval, shortly called Monal was a south Indian film actress who committed suicide at the age of 21. She was the younger sister of actress Simran and has done notable role in Vijay starrer super hit, Badri. She committed suicide in 2002, which shocked the whole Tamil film industry. Simran told the tabloids her sister died of "boyfriend issues". The idea of women actors’ counseling was put forward by many senior artists after her suicide. In her last release, Charlie Chaplin, a low-budget comic caper, she played the role of a call girl who commits suicide. The real life cruelly imitated the reel life of this actress who was only 5-film old in the industry, and she had just attended the muhrat of her new film, Pey Veedu.

 

Her full name is Monal Naval born on January 26, 1981. She was born in Delhi to Ashok Naval and Saradha. She completed graduation from Mithibai College. She had three siblings, of whom Simran has already established as the leading female star of Tamil film industry before Monal’s debut. Monal has been a model before she debuted film industry. 2000 Kannada release Indradhanush was her debut flick, where she played the female lead opposite Shiva Rajkumar. She was credited with the name – Abhisaarika for the movie.

 

Badri was her first signed Tamil film, though Paarvai Ondre Podhume was her first release. She played parallel lead aside Bhumika Chawla for her first release, Vijay starrer – Badri, which was a super hit. Following Badri, Paarvai Ondre Podhume got released, where she was paired with Kunal. Surprisingly years later in 2008, Kunal was also found dead in his room and is rumored to be a suicide. He was also found hanging from a ceiling in his Mumbai apartment.

 

After her debut film, Monal appeared in a few movies like Vivaramana Aalu, Pesadha Kannum Pesume and Charlie Chaplin which received moderate success at box office. She was also seen in Sunny Deol starrer Bollywood flick – Maa Tujhe Salaam. She played the supporting role of Nargis. After a promising debut in Tamil films and Bollywood, she was found hanging on 30 April 2002 aged just 21 in her room in Chennai. Simran accused choreographer, Prasanna Sujit to be the man behind her suicide, as both broke the relationship a few days earlier.
