Mohan Joshi Biography

Mohan Joshi is a well known character artist and villain of Indian cinema. Apart from Hindi, he works in Tamil, Marathi, Kannada and Bhojpuri movies also. He is a successful television actor also. Joshi was born in Bangalore, Karnataka. But later he moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting and entered Bollywood cinema. Later he appeared in other languages as well. He is one of the leading villains of the industry since the decade of 1990’s. Sawat Majhi Ladki (1993), Tu Tithe Mee (1998) and Gharabaher (1999) are his noted Marathi movies during early phase of his film career. He resigned as the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Natya Parishad in 2011, following allegations of creating commotion at Nashik after consuming alcohol. For his role in Marathi movie, Gharabaher he received National award special mention in the year 1999.

 

Joshi started his career as a theatre artist from Pune. ‘Kuryat Sada Tingalam’ was his most noted theatre play that staged more than 1000 shows. He entered movies during early 1990’s. Marathi movie, Sawat Majhi Ladki released in 1993 was his big break to the industry. His lead role of a doctor husband was appreciated well for its comic elements. He worked aside Neena Kulkarni and Varsha Usgaonkar in this movie. Gharabaher gave him big break to Marathi films, where he got National award special mention in the year 1999.

 

Joshi entered Bollywood in the year 1993 with movies, Bhookamp, Jagriti and Anth. In 1996, he played villain role in Sunil Shetty’s hit movie, Shastra. 1997 gave him two big movies in Bollywood. Ishq is noted for its comic elements while Mrityudant for its powerful screen presence. He won screen awards for best performance in negative role for the movie, Mrityudant. This single role placed him among the top slot of Hindi villains and a few more noted works include - Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Bichoo, Major saab, Baghban, Gangajal, Garv: Pride and Honour, Vaastav, Yashwant and Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet.
