Mohammad Azam Khan Biography

Azam Khan was born in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on 14 August 1948 Married to Tazeen Fatima is a Samajwadi Party politician of India which is mostly active in Uttar Pradesh. He is a cabinet minister in the governnent of Uttar Pradesh. Azam Khan was appointed as the Chairman of the Maha Kumbh Mela committee in 2013 in Allahabad by the U.P. government. 

Mohammad Azam Khan has been so far elected eitght times for the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly. Mohammad Azam Khan faced expelsuion from the Samajwadi party's membership for his disputes over party’s decisions in the year 2009 but he was reinstated the next year.

Azam Khan took the responsibility of a tragic incident in which forty people died (as per official figures) in a stampede at the Allahabad Junction railway station (outside Kumbh Mela premises) but Azam Khan resigned from the post. However, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister did not accept Azam Khan's resignation praising the minister for his sincere work, and his decision of taking the responsibility.

Currently, UP’s urban development minister Azam Khan is in the news for more than 800 Valmiki families have alleged him to force an indirect threat of conversion to Islam by a notice served to them by local authorities marking their houses for demolilishing. As per the victims the civil authorities have plans of building a mall after demolishing their houses. The serious most allegetion is that Azam Khan is behind the action who wants them to convert to Islam if they want to retain their houses intact.

Such controversies are common with Azam Khan, for instance-A Class XI student from Bareilly was arrested for a so called "objectionable" post against him on Facebook on March 18.

Azam had once said that Sanjay Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were punished by allmighty god for "forcible sterilisation" during the Emergency and "shilanyas" at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

A social activist and a dalit writer Kanwal Bharti was arrested in rampur for a Facebook post against Azam Khan. He was booked under section 66-A of the Information Technology Act which has recently been removed by Supreme Court of India.
