Mir Afsar Ali Biography

Mir Afsar Ali is a popular Indian radio jockey, television anchor, singer and comedian from Kolkata. He hosts Mirakkel, a laughter show on Zee Bangla and Hi Kolkata on Radio Mirchi. He is also a voice actor of ‘Sunday Suspense’ show on Radio Mirchi. He has appeared in movies like Bhooter Bhabishyat (2012), Chaplin (2011), Natobar Notout (2010) and The Bong Connection (2006). He is popular for imitating Bollywood celebrities like Mithun Chakraborty, Bappi Lahiri and Rituparno Ghosh.

Mir Afsar Ali was born on February 13, 1975 in Murshidabad. He was born in a conservative Muslim family as a single child to parents. He was brought up in central Kolkata and studied at Assembly of God Church School, Park Street. He used to listen to the radio for hours during his childhood. As he was a single child, he was silent and enjoyed the chapel services at school which served as his inspiration. He learnt to become a good listener and it helped a lot later in his career as a radio jockey.

His entry to Radio was just co-incidence. He just happened to read a 6-day old newspaper bit which told about the auditions for radio jockeys newly launched radio station at Kolkata. It happened in 1994 and Mir went for an audition. In fact it was the last day of auditions. Thus he entered to the world of radio jockeys. Television made him a household name. Yet it was through radio, Mir polished his talents. He even feared that television appearance may shatter the mystery behind the hidden face and voice and thus he was not at all interested in television at first. He finally made television appearance as a news reader on Khaash Khobor, a news programme on DD Bangla.
