Milind Murli Deora Biography

Milind Murli Deora is an Indian politician and former parliamentarian belonging to Indian National Congress. He is the son of veteran politician, Murli Deora. He was a member of Lok Sabha during 2009-2014 representing Mumbai South constituency. He was one of the youngest ministers of Manmohan Singh’s cabinet. He served as Minister of State Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in 2011, followed by Minister of State Ministry of Shipping in 2012. He is married to famous filmmaker Manmohan Shetty’s daughter Pooja Shetty since 2008, who heads the film production company "Walk Water Media".

He was born in Mumbai on 4 December 1976. He was born into a political family associated with congress. His father Murli Deora was senior Congress Party leader, a parliamentarian between 1984 and 1996 and Minister of Corporate Affairs. Milind studied at Cathedral and John Connon School, Sydenham College and Boston University, US. He completed his studies in Business graduation. Yet following his father’s footsteps he too reached politics. His father passed away in 2014.

He joined active politics in the early 2000s, and got elected to Lok Sakha for the first time in 2004 general assembly elections. He was one of the youngest MPs of parliament then. He was a member of the Standing Committee on Defence since 2004. In 2009 he got re-elected to Lok Sabha from Mumbai South Constituency by a huge margin of 1,12,682 votes. He was induced to Manmohan Singh’s cabinet in 2011 and given the charge of IT. In 2012 he was given additional charge of Shipping. He proposed to establish a heritage museum and an elevator as part of the Vizhinjam lighthouse tourism project soon after he took charge as minister.
