Mazhar Khan Biography

Mazhar Khan is an Indian actor and film maker associated with television and Bollywood. As a film actor, he is recognized for handling the character role of Abdulla in 1980 movie, Shaan. He was married to famous actress and beauty queen Zeenat Aman and at the time of his death their divorce case was still pending. Upcoming Bollywood actors - Mashhoor Amrohi and Mashhoor Amrohi, grandsons of famed Bollywood filmmaker Kamal Amrohi are his nephews. His sister Nilofer Amrohi is married to Tajdar Amrohi, son of Kamal Amrohi. Mazhar’s last film as a director was much delayed Gang (2000), which was released two years after his death.

He was born in Mumbai on 22 July 1955. 1980 film Shaan directed by Ramesh Sippy earned him instant fame. He played the memorable role of Abdulla in this movie, for which he is remembered still now. He fell in love with Zeenat Aman and got married in 1985. Zeenat was then in a broken relationship with her co-star Sanjay Khan. After her divorce, she married Mazhar Khan and the couple had two kids. Mazhar too was legally separated from his first wife, Rubaina Mumtaz - Dilip Kumar’s niece and granddaughter of politician Fazal Nawaz Jung. However similar to her first marriage, she faced domestic violence and abuse from Mazhar, which resulted in their breakup. She also came up before media to show her bruises. She filed for a divorce and Mazhar passed away before the legal separation.

 
A small time actor, he appeared in Bollywood movies like Arth, Ek hi bhool, Wanted, Soni Mahiwal, Gulami etc. Buniyad marked his television debut. He also turned a film producer and director and Gang is the single movie directed by him. This multi-star cast movie based on a fresh script got delayed almost for a decade and when the movie got released, already many movies of similar plots have been made on Bollywood. So critics welcomed the release of this movie and appreciated Mazhar Khan for the fresh subject he chose in the early 1990s.
