Martin Prakkat Biography

Martin Prakkat is a successful film director associated with Malayalam cinema. He is also a producer, writer, and photographer. One of the talented directors at present, he shot to fame after the movie, Charlie (2015) which accumulated eight awards at Kerala State Film awards, including best direction and screenplay. Thus Martin won two state awards for the film – Charlie. Earlier he has directed the films, Best Actor (2010) and American-born Confused Desi (ABCD) (2013). All his three directorial ventures have been commercial hits. In fact, after his debut film with actor Mammootty, he directed rest two films with Dulquer Salman – Mammootty’s son.

Martin hails from Changanassery of Kottayam district. He studied at Changanassery SB College. Since college days he was active in theater and has won best stage actor award multiple times for intercollege festivals. After college studies, he started off his career as a professional photographer with Vanitha Magazine. He was associated with Vanitha publications for long 10 years. Later he started writing film script aside Byju Chandran, his college friend and joined film industry in 2010. He was spotted by Mammootty and Martin made his directorial debut with Best Actor in 2010, starring Mammootty in the lead role. He co-scripted the film, and it was a major success at box office.

In 2013 he directed the second film - American-born Confused Desi (ABCD). The film opened to mixed reviews, but was a box office hit. The movie starred Dulquer Salman, Jacob Gregory, Aparna Gopinath and Tovino Thomas, and was one of the early hits of Dulquer. It marked the debut of film producer Shibu Thameens, after a successful career in film distribution. Charlie is his best work up-to-date. The movie received major awards at many award functions and was a super hit at box office. The film bagged all the major awards at state awards - best director, best actor, best actress, best screenplay, best art direction, sound mixing, colour processing and cinematography, a rare phenomenon in state awards. The movie is now to be remade in Tamil with Madhavan playing the lead role.
