Manu Narayan Biography

Manu Narayan is an American actor, producer, singer and musician of Chennai, Indian origin. He played lead role in A. R. Rahman’s musical – Bombay Dreams and has also appeared in the movies The Love Guru (2008), The Last Airbender (2010) and Walkaway (2010). He holds Double major in saxophone and voice. He is an accomplished classical saxophonist, both in Indian Carnatic and western styles. He currently serves as a Trustee on the board of Carnegie Mellon University since 2013 July 1st. He serves for a three-year term as a Young Alumni Term Trustee. He played male lead in Good Night Good Morning directed by Sudhish Kamath.

 

Manu Narayan was born on August 16, 1973 to Tamilian parents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. He graduated from Franklin Regional High School Pittsburgh in 1991 and later he studied at Carnegie Mellon University where he completed Double major in saxophone and voice. He currently resides in Hollywood. He is a professional performer of arts and music. Though he lives the life of an American he regularly visits Venketeshwara temple in Pittsburgh, learns Carnatic music and also tries to become a vegetarian. He learnt saxophone from Kadri Gopalnath, coming to India.

 

In his debut movie `Bombay Dreams', he played the lead role of Aakash, who strives hard to get a role in Bollywood. Later he did a film with Lisa Ray called "Quarter Life Crisis." In 2004 UPI hailed him as a promising young actor. He co-starred with Mike Myers in ‘The Love Guru’ in 2008, which remains one of his best performances up to date. He played the character role of Rajneesh, Pitka's assistant in this movie. Good Night Good Morning and A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song are other noted appearances.
