Manmohan Acharya Biography

Manmohan Acharya is a researcher, noted poet and lyricist from Orissa, often regarded as a post modern poet. His pen name is Vanikavi. He played a significant role in inducing classical dance of Orissa, Odissi, for the first time to enter the Bollywood. He used lucid Sanskrit lyrics for this purpose. His popular work, Gita-Milindam contains 15 gunjans in different melodious rhythms. He writes in Sanskrit as well. His works include dance dramas, playwrights and research articles also.

 

Arjuna-Pratijnaa, Shrita-kamalam, Pada-pallavam, Divya-Jayadevam, Pingalaa, Mrtyu, Sthitaprajnah, Tantram, Purva-sakuntalam, Uttara-sakuntalam and Raavanah are her noted playwrights. Gita-bhaaratam, Palli-panchaasika (Khandakavya), subhasa-charitam (Mahakavya), Sri Sivananda-Laharika (Philosophical Kavya) and Yati-giti-satakam (Sataka-kavya) are his noted Sanskrit poetry works. He has also translated Jayadev’s Gita Govinda as Gitagovind Rasaavali. Manmohan Acharya was born in the village Lathanga in Orissa in 1967. His parents are Pandit Mayadhar Acharya and Parvati Devi. He has contributed to Sanskrit language as a playwright and a poet. Gitamohanam, Gita milindam, Palli-panchaasika and Gita-bhaaratam are his noted Sanskrit poetry works. For his contributions to researches and Sanskrit works, he has received numerous awards and honours. Doctor of Philosophy from Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University in 2003, Vanikavi Award from Vanivinodi Parishad, Utkal University in 1991 and Sanskrit Eloquency Award, Vikram University, Ujjain in 1990 need special note.
