Manjalamkuzhi Ali Biography

Manjalamkuzhi Ali is a prominent politician from Malabar, Kerala associated with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). He is also a successful businessman and entrepreneur. He has been a member of Kerala state legislative assembly several times and has also served as a cabinet minister. He has also successfully contested as an LDF independent candidate. However he left his association with LDF in 2011 and is currently associated with UDF. He has been successfully elected to state assembly during the elections, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016. In a nail-biting finish, he defeated V. Sasikumar of LDF by a narrow margin of only 579 votes. He served as a cabinet minister in Oomen Chandy’s government during 2011-2016.

 

He was born on 1st January 1952. Manjalamkuzhi Mohammed and Perincheeri Kunhaysha are his parents. He was born as their fourth son. He is married to APM Raziya and the couple has four children, of whom their elder son Amjad Ali deceased at a younger age of 33 in 2014. His father-in-law C P Kunjalikutty Keyi is a former MLA of Kerala. Apart from being a noted politician Ali is also associated with artistic world, and has also produced and distributed a few Malayalam movies. The King, Dhwani, Ezharakkoottam, Aayira Para, Oru Abhibhashakante Case diary, Radhamadhavam etc are some of his production ventures. Many of his films starred Mammootty in lead role, and have been commercial hits. He also acted in one film - 'Vikruthikootam'.

 

Chairman of Mahakavi Moyinkutty Vaidyar Smaraka Trust, Director of NORKA-ROOTS and Director of KSFDC are a few positions he held over the years. He currently serves as the chairman of the GEMS Arts and Science College, Malappuram. A 4-time MLA from Malabar, he defeated M. K. Muneer in Mankada constituency once, though they have together served as cabinet ministers of UDF led government. He was the Minister for Urban Development Affairs and Minority welfare in Oomen Chandy’s cabinet during 2011-2016.
