Mani C. Kappan Biography

Mani C. Kappan is a cine artist associated with Malayalam cinema as a producer, director and actor. He is also a politician associated with K Muraleedharan’s Nationalist Congress Party. He is the producer of Malayalam cult classics – Meleparambil Aanveedu (1993) and Mannar Mathai Speaking (1996). Both these movies were blockbuster hits as well. As an actor he is known for portraying antagonist roles and has appeared in around 15 movies. Iruvattam Manavaatti (2005), Mangalam Veettil Manaseswari Gupta (1995), Man of the Match (1996) and Kusruthikaatu (1995) are among his best character roles onscreen. He had a short stint in television as well.

Though active in film industry as an ace producer of the 1990s, he quit the film scene to join politics. He is associated with Nationalist Congress Party and serves as the State Treasurer of the Party. He is also the Convener of its Overseas Cell. He has also served as the vice-chairman of Kerala Coconut Development Board. He became a prominent name in K Muraleedharan led N. C. P. He was even fielded as a candidate at Pathanamthitta during 2006 elections though he couldn’t win. He has announced a comeback to the film industry with a script by Rajan Kiriyath. In 2012, he made his directorial debut with the Assamese-Bengali bilingual film - Borolar Ghor, which itself is the remake of his production venture, Meleparambil Aanveedu. He was the financer of the movie as well.

He was born in Pala, Kottayam on May 30, 1956. He rose to prominence as a film producer in the 1990s, with a series of hits like Janam (1993), Meleparambil Aanveedu (1993), CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed. (1994) and Mannar Mathai Speaking (1996). Nagara vadhu, Man of the Match and Kusruthi are his other releases. He acted in the television series – Dathuputhri.
