Mangal Dhillon Biography

Mangal Dhillon is a noted Hindi film actor who works in television serials as well. He played the role of Lubhaya Ram in Ramesh Sippy's landmark serial Buniyaad, aired on Doordarshan in the 1980’s. This single role was a breakthrough role of his acting career which cemented his position in Bollywood as well. Dhillon is also known as a producer, director and poet. He has been a noted theater artist too, for about one decade - 1978 to 1987. Currently he is working on two books – ‘The Dark World of The Ghosts’ and ‘Kujh Saddaran ate Chand Haunke’, in Punjabi and English languages. He portrayed the role of ‘Dattaji Scindia’ in Doordarshan serial, The Great Maratha, one of his popular roles till now.

 

Dhillon was born in Punjab. He completed graduation from Government College, Muktsar. Since school days he was interested in plays and has been associated with plays during college days too. Later he joined Department of Indian Theatre at Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1980 where he completed his course as an actor winning a gold medal. Apart from being a stage actor till 1987, he also worked in television serials and radio plays. Buniyaad was his real career breakthrough. He also worked as a voice actor for radio plays for a couple of years. His role in television serial, Junoon earned him RAPA award for best actor in 1998.

 

He played significant roles of character artist and negative roles in a few Bollywood movies too. Khoon bhari maang, Jaanesheen, Border, Khalnayak, Nagmani, Vishwatma, Akela, Dalaal, Zindagi Ek Juaa and Train to Pakistan are among his noted roles. He also owns a production company which has produced movies like Khalsa, A Day at the Golden Temple, The Inseparables, The Greatness of Sikhism etc.
