Mahesh Kothare is a film personality associated with Marathi cinema and Bollywood. He is an actor as well as a film maker. As an actor, his major movies are Raja Aur Rank, Chhota Bhai, Mere Laal, and Ghar Ghar ki Kahani. He has been associated with entertainment industry from a young age. Mahesh Kothare is also known as a revolutionary Film maker in the Marathi Film Industry. With the Marathi movie, Dhumdhadaka released in 1985 he didn’t look back and he is regarded as one of the pioneers of Marathi cinema. His films are technically strong and known for fantasy subjects.

In 2013, he released his first 3D project titled, Zapatlela 2 which is a sequel of his own 1993 hit movie, Zapatlela. His son Adinath Kothare played lead role in this movie. The movie was declared a super hit at box office. He has received best director and best movie awards several times at Filmfare, State and Star Screen award functions. In the middle 1980’s, Mahesh Kothare and Sachin Pilgaonkar are those two names who brought great revolutions on Marathi big screen through their experiments and new trends in film making.

Mahesh Kothare started his career as child artistes in Hindi films. Later he moved to Marathi cinema and became successful as a producer and director. In the middle 1980’s, he acted as a trendsetter in Marathi cinema. 'Kothare and Kothare Vision’ is his own production company. His first direction Venture, Dhumdhadaka was a trendsetter and gave new lessons to film makers of Marathi cinema. Dhadakebaaz – the first cinemascope movie of Marathi was also directed by him. He brought a number of innovations through the technical quality of Marathi films. He introduced Dolby Digital sound to Marathi cinema with the film Chimni Pakhara. Other noted works include – Khabardar, Mazha Chhakula and Khatarnak.
