Mahendra Sandhu Biography

Mahendra Sandhu, popularly known as ‘Agent Vinod’ is a Bollywood actor of yesterdays. He has also acted in a few Punjabi movies. He played lead role of Agent Vinod in the thriller produced by Rajshri Pictures in 1977. The movie 'Agent Vinod' was an attempted thriller involving the kidnapping of a high profile scientist and was a huge hit and regarded as a trendsetter in those days. He has acted in 17 films in 19 years of his film career. Yet none of the movies have made a distinct landmark on his acting career, except Agent Vinod. The movie also starred Asha Sachdev, Jagdeep, Nazir Hussain and Rehana Sultan.

In 2012 a movie was made in Bollywood with the same name which starred real life couple Kareena and Saif, though both the movies hold entirely different story threads. Sandhu was approached to do a camo appearance in this version. But he refused it. However there is a dialogue in the new version which was a tribute to the legendary actor who created history as ‘Agent Vinod’ in the late 1970’s of Bollywood. Its background score also looked similar to the old version. His last appearance was for the movie ‘Mitter Pyare Nu Haal Mureedan Da Kehna’ in 2004. Now he is busy with real estate business.

Sandhu was born in Patiala in 1947 and he started his film career in 1972 with the movie, Khoon Khoon. His work in Khoon ki Keemat impressed Rajashri productions and thus he received the dream role of his career in the form of Agent Vinod. Sandhu is probably the only actor whose real name is used in three different films - Mohinder, Mahinder and Mahendra in 'Mitter Pyare Nu Haal Mureedan Da Kehna', 'Meharbaani' and 'Guru Ho Jaa Shuru' respectively. In 1992, he made his directorial debut with Kisme Kitna Hai Dum'.
