Madhuvanti Arun

Madhuvanti Arun is a Tamil actress and educationalist who promotes education through different means. Well known in theatre circles, she is a theatre artist too who earlier served as play director and choreographer. She is on the board of trustees of the Calibre Educational Foundation. Many of her family members are closely related to theatre and cinema, and known for their contributions to Tamil film industry. Madhuvanti is a trained classical dancer too, whose dance productions like ‘Tamizh’ were well received. Dharma Durai was her debut release in Tamil films, and later she worked in a couple of more projects.

She belongs to a family of artists and intellectuals, mostly associated with Tamil cinema. Her father Y. G. Mahendra is a famous playwright and actor. She is the granddaughter of veteran playwright Y. G. Parthasarathy and educationist Rajalakshmi Parthasarathy. Her husband V. Arunkumar is the grandson of Gemini Ganesan. Thus she is a relative of Bollywood actress Rekha, Gemini Ganesan’s daughter. Her father is the brother-in-law of Latha Rajinikanth. Thus she is a close relative of megastar Rajinikanth too. Bollywood actress Vyjayanthimala is her relative.

Known for her contributions to theatre, and as a promoter of art and education, she worked as a choreographer and director in Tamil theater. She has also done brief roles on Tamil screen. She was most recently seen in Tamil movies - Dharma Durai as Police Officer, followed by Kadamban and Shivalinga. In 2009 she won The Ritz Fashion Magazine’s “Women of the Year Award”. She was one among the 15 women who received this honour. She has a finger in every pie of Performing Arts.she used to sing in her father’s light music shows, where she was known for her replication of L.R. Easwari numbers.
