Madhumitha Biography

Madhumitha, also known as Swapna Madhuri is a noted south Indian actress who works in Tamil and Telugu films. Kudaikul Mazhai, Puttintiki Ra Chelli, Aanivaer and Arai En 305-il Kadavul are her noted works. For the Tamil film Yogi in 2009, she was nominated at Vijay Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Swapna Madhuri was born on August 20, 1981 in Chennai. She started working in movies with her birth name. Her debut was through 2002 Telugu film Sandade Sandadi where she played supporting role. Same year she played supporting role in Manmadhudu, where she got opportunity to work with Akkineni Nagarjuna and Sonali Bendre. It was followed by a series of supporting roles of which silver jubilee hit Puttintiki Ra Chelli (2004) was the most noted work where she shared screen space with Arjun and Meena. Ammailu Abbailu (2003) and Puttintiki Ra Chelli (2004) are other noted Telugu movies in which she played supporting roles.

Then she changed her name to Madhumitha and entered Tamil cinema. Kudaikul Mazhai, by R. Parthiban, released in 2004 was her debut Tamil cinema. Madhumitha was the name of the character played by Swapna in that movie and she changed her name. Though the movie was a flop, she got opportunities in Tamil cinema where in most of those movies, she played leading heroine’s role. Amudhey (2005), Englishkaran (2005) and Naalai (2006) are a few of such early roles for which she got appreciation, though these movies were not major success at box office.

In 2007, Aanivaer was released. Her role as a doctor fetched her appreciation and this film was released in many Western Tamil diasporal regions also. It was followed by comedy film Arai En 305-il Kadavul which have her big break to Tamil industry. Yogi was her next noted work, though the movie was a failure.
