Madhu Mantena Biography

Madhu Mantena is an Indian entrepreneur, producer and distributor associated with Indian movies. He is involved in the production and distribution of Telugu, Tamil and Bollywood movies. He is the co-owner and founder of Phantom Films, one of the most successful production houses of Bollywood which has delivered hits like NH10, Ugly, Hunterr, Hasee Toh Phasee and Queen. The company started by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Vikas Bahl and himself in the year 2011. On 21st November 2015, he married the famous fashion designer Masaba Gupta in a star studded wedding. She is the daughter of famous actress Neena Gupta and West Indies cricket legend Viv Richards.

 

Madhu is a native of Hyderabad. He started his career in his teens by creating his own music label and then sold to Supreme Recording Company. Later he set up Adlabs’ International Operations and also headed Saregama Films before he ran RGV’s production house Factory in the mid-2000s. As a film producer, the much anticipated movie - Aamir Khan starrer Gajani was his first venture. He produced the movie aside Allu Aravind and the movie went on to become the  first Hindi film to cross the 100 crore mark, breaking all previous box office records.

 

Since then he has been associated with both Bollywood and south Indian movies and has co-produced - Rakht Charitra, Jhootha Hi Sahi, Autograph and Rann. Later he co-founded KWAN, a celebrity management company and co-founded Phantom Films with Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl and Vikramaditya Motwane in 2012. Though the production house has delivered several hits, its latest release Bombay Velvet was a disaster. His name is entered into Limca Book of Records for releasing 7 films within a short interval of 50 days.
