Madhu Kaithapram Biography

Madhu Kaithapram is an acclaimed director of Malayalam cinema who received National Film Award for the best debutant director for 2006 movie – Ekantham. He has also directed two more highly accalimed movies - Madhya Venal (2009) with Manoj K. Jayan and Shweta Menon in the lead roles followed by Orma Mathram (2009) which starred Dileep, Priyanka and Master Sidharth. Orma mathram is one of the best performances of Dileep’s acting career. Both these movies belong to offbeat category and both were not warmly welcomed by public.

Madhu was born in Kaithapram of Kannur district and ‘kaithapram’ tag is added to his name. Kunjirama Pothuval and Narayani Amma are his parents. He was born as the youngest child of the family and for the same reason he got enough freedom to choose a career which he dreamt about. Kaithapram is a beautiful village of Kerala which has given many artists to the external world. Noted lyricist and singer – Kaithapram Damodharan Namboodiri, Kaithapram Unnikrishnan Namboodiri and Kaithapram Vishwanathan are among those leading artists.  Currently he is settled in Payannur with his wife Rakhi and son Sreeram.

Madhu started watching movies seriously while at college. He schooled at Mathamangalam government high school and completed graduation from Government College Payyannur. Born in a middle class family, he led a simple life. He was quite interested in reading in those days, which mould his character and film career a lot. Later he became the assistant to director Jayaraj. He was working as a marketing agent also in those days. He got married while working as an assistant director. Ekantham marked his directorial debut, which presented the legendary actor Thilakan without any makeup. 

He died on 29 December 2014. He was under treatment for diabetes.
