Madhu Biography

Madhavan Nair – shortly known as Madhu is an actor of Malayalam movies. He is one among those great heroes of yesterdays, along with satyan and Prem Nazir and he is most known for his role as Muslim lover Paree Kutty in the National award winning movie ‘Chemeen’. This movie is still considered as the milestone movie of Malayalam film industry as well as Madhu’s film career. His debut movie in Bollywood as hero, Saat Hindustani is best as the debut movie of Amitabh Bachchan who played supporting actor role in this movie. Madhu is also a successful producer and director of Malayalam movies.

He was born in Thiruvananthapuram city, Gaureeshapattom in the year 1933. His father was the Mayor of Trivandrum that time. When he was a lecturer of S.T.Hindu College Nagercoil, he happened to notice the ad inviting fresh candidates to join National school of Drama. Before the completion of the course, he got an offer from director Ramu Karyat to do a role in the movie – Moodupadam. Ramu Karyat was the director who later made the movie ‘Chemmeen’ with Madhu, Satyan and Sheela. But the movie that got released first was Ninamaninja Kaalpaadukal in the year 1963. This role was offered to him by Pisharadi. Madhu played the second role hero in the movie Moodupadam, where Satyan was the leading hero.

With the release of Chemmeen in 1964, he became a popular face all over Kerala with lots of fans around. Unsuccessful lover singing the heart breaking song ‘Maanasa maine varoo’ was appealed by billions of fans and still now, this song is considered as the best romantic song made in Malayalam. Manna Dey has rendered his lovely voice for Salil Chaudary’s music for this song.

He has worked with almost all leading ladies of Malayalam industry – Sharada, Sheela, Jaya Bharathi, Sri Vidya and many more. His best movies include Chemeen, Venalil oru mazha, Kolilakkam, vellam, Olavum Theeravum, Vilakku vaangiya veena, Sindoora cheppu, Swayamvaram, Bhargavi Nilayam, Thacholi Othenan, Priya, Nagarame nanni, Themmaadi Velappan, Nakhangal, Abhayam, Kalliyankaattu Neeli, Sarasayya, Vivahithare ithile ithile, Ashthamayam, Aval viswasthayaanu, Jnan ekanaanu, Rowdy Rajamma and Meen. During the last years, he is doing character roles and supporting actor roles – Twenty 20, Vranapakuttu, Malappuram haaji mahaanaya joji, Kudumba sametham, Thaskara veeran, Ezhupunna Thaskaran, Karyasthan and Champakkulam Thachan can be included here.
