Madhav Borcar Biography

Madhav Borcar is a prolific writer associated with Konkani language, who currently serves as Chairman of the Goa Konkani Academy. His full name is Venimadhav Borcar. He is a recipient of 2001 Kendra Sahitya Academy award, for his collection of poetry `Yaman'. He received it for the second time in 2004 a translation award for Ekshem Ek Kavita. He dedicated more than 25 years in Konkani writings. He has worked as a professor of Konkani language for more than a decade, and also had a long stint with All India radio for a series of posts. He worked in Mumbai, Mangalore and Kolhapur and lastly as a Deputy Director of AIR Panaji before his retirement.

 

Madhav started his professional career as a teacher before he joined All India Radio. Since young he wanted to join media, as it gives new hopes to interact with more people. He got selected in 1984 USC exams and that’s how he joined AIR Mumbai as the unit head of Konkani. During this time he got opportunity to meet many artistes, writers, eminent speakers and broadcaster Amin Sayani. He has watched many music maestros singing live in studio, and was also associated with radio plays. Later he got promoted to many senior positions and retired as Deputy Director of AIR Panaji.

 

While he was working with AIR Panaji, radio plays were going very strong. Every month they produce at least one folk play, and the practice still goes on even after his retirement. He comments that very often the voice actors of radio plays act as if they are on real stage. He also took part in the process of digitizing the archives of radio plays. He is a winner of Kendra Sahitya Academy award twice.
