M. V. Raghavan Biography

M. V. Raghavan was a prominent leader belonging to Communist Party of India, Kerala. His name is written among prominent political leaders of Kerala all time. He has served as state minister twice and this veteran leader was serving as the General Secretary of Communist Marxist Party, when he passed away on November 9, 2014 aged 81. He has also served as minister in UDF government and Raghavan was known for his orator skills. He was also associated with MACT (MannathAcharya Charitable Trust), which worked for the uplift of minor Nambiar community of Kerala. He served as a member of state assembly 7 times and served as the Minister for Co-Operation Kerala from 1991-1996 and Minister for Co-Operation and Ports Kerala from 2001-2006. He set up the first co-operative sector Medical College in India, Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur District which has been in limelight and controversies for many reasons in the mid-1990s during the initial stage.  

He was born in Kannur, Kerala in 1933. Raghavanwas married to Girija and had three children of whom M V Nikesh Kumar is atelevision personality, newsreader and Managing Director of Reporter TV.Raghavan started his political career as a youth member of communist party. When he was excelled from the party, he bounced back forming a new party – CPM. He served as a member of Kerala Legislative Assembly in consecutive 7 terms since fourth state assembly elections. He stood as a candidate in 7 distinct constituencies and won each time as well.  

This leader is known for strengthening many movements associated with co-operative sector in Kerala. He initiated projects like Bepoor and Azhikkal port. He is also the founder of Snake-venom removal centre and Ayurveda College atPappinisseri. He was equally appreciated by LDF and UDF for his talents and political skills.
