M. Saroja Biography 
M. Saroja was a noted character artist and comedian of Tamil cinema during its golden period. She was frequently paired with the legendary comedian K. A. Thangavelu and known for their sizzling chemistry, they worked together in more than 250 movies together. They got married in 1959. Kalyana Parisu – is regarded as the best performance of this pair. One of the busy actresses during the period, her first release was Sarvadhikari, for which she learnt dancing, sword fights and even horse-riding.
Saroja was frequently paired with Thangavelu, whom she married later. Saroja has been the popular female comedian of Tamil cinema then and Thangavelu was popular through his distinct style and dialogue delivery. One of the most successful pairs on Tamil screen till now, the couple tied the knot after getting paired in more than 50 films. They got married in Madurai at the Murugan temple during the 100th day celebrations of Kalyana Parisu, the movie regarded as their masterpiece.
Both played husband and wife in the movie. The duo had later on acted in more than 250 films together. She fondly used to address Thangavelu as CAT. She passed away in 2012, almost two decades after his death. Both these actors were committed to theatre also. From 1974 till 1994, the year he passed away, he and Saroja worked together in Raadhu’s theatre troupe.
She was born in the year 1933 and was introduced to silver screen at the age of 14. Her break to movies was given by K. Subramaniam, who casted her as M. G. R’s cousin in the film Sarvadhikari. Later she portrayed over 300 films onscreen, mostly paired with Thangavelu in comic roles. Married on the most memorable day of the 100th day celebrations of Kalyana Parisu, the best performance of this couple, they lived together for almost 35 years till Thangavelu’s death. She passed away due to cardiac arrest at her T Nagar residence at Chennai in 2012.
