M. Saravanan (film Director) Biography

M. Saravanan is a popular film director associated with south Indian cinema, who shot to fame with his debut Tamil venture, Engeyum Eppodhum which was a runaway hit. The movie bagged him SIIMA Award and Edison Award for Best Debutant Director in Tamil language, apart from nominations for best director at SIIMA Awards and Vijay Film Awards. Saravanan has also directed movies in Kannada and Telugu languages.

 

Saravanan hails from Namakkal, Tamil Nadu. He started his film career as an assistant director to the ace filmmaker A. R. Murugadoss. In 2009 he made his directorial debut through Telugu film Ganesh, for which he wrote the screenplay too. But the movie was a commercial failure and went unnoticed. After a break of two years he returned in a bang with the Tamil flick - Engeyum Eppodhum, a romantic flick which was a commercial hit. He was praised by critics for his direction skills and he also received many nominations and awards for this romantic movie. The movie was co-produced by his mentor A. R. Murugadoss, and starred Jai, Anjali, Sharvanand and Ananya in lead roles.

 

Since then he has directed two more Tamil films - Ivan Veramathiri (2013) starring Vikram Prabhu and Surabhi, andValiyavan (2015) starring Jai and Andrea Jeremiah. Ivan Veramathiri opened to positive reviews while Valiyavanreceived mixed responses. Ivan Veramathiri completed 100 days in its theatric run and was a box office hit. In 2016 he adapted its script to make his first Kannada film, Chakravyuha starring Puneeth Rajkumar and Rachita Ram in lead roles. The movie released on 29th April 2016 is a box office hit and still running in theaters.
